K9 Snowbird joined the ɫɫÑо¿Ëù Police Department in May 2024 and has been making a remarkable impact since day one. With his affectionate personality—complete with hugs, tail wags, and plenty of kisses—Snowbird and his handler have elevated the Therapy K9 Program to new heights.
Following the retirement of USFPD’s first Therapy K9, Snowbird stepped into a larger role during a significant moment for the university: the unification of USF’s police departments under one Public Safety Division. As a result, this team became the first Therapy K9 unit to serve all three USF campuses proudly.
To date, K9 Snowbird and his handler have logged an impressive number of deployments, focusing primarily on community engagement—student requests, campus hangouts, wellness initiatives, and de-stressor events. Snowbird’s presence provides comfort, connection, and emotional support to students, staff, and visitors across the university community.
When off duty, Snowbird enjoys all the classic comforts of canine life with his handler—playing fetch, tug-of-war, or simply relaxing on the couch watching a movie with his four-legged siblings.
K9 Snowbird is not only a joyful ambassador for USFPD but also a vital partner in promoting wellness, approachability, and community trust throughout the University of South Florida.

K9 Star was born in Palmetto, Florida, in October 2023 and received his early training through Dogs Inc. His bright personality and naturally calm demeanor made him an ideal fit for therapy work, leading him to join the ɫɫÑо¿Ëù Police Department as a certified Therapy K9. Today, Star plays a key role in supporting the USF community, fostering a welcoming, comforting environment wherever he goes.
Known for his goofy charm, warm disposition, and intuitive sense of empathy, Star has a special talent for recognizing when someone needs reassurance. He is quick to offer a hug, a kiss, or simply sit quietly beside someone seeking comfort. His steady, gentle presence has made him especially beloved by children and individuals experiencing stress or anxiety.
When off duty, Star enjoys classic Labrador fun—playing fetch, spending time with his animal sibling, and proudly carrying around his beloved football, which rarely leaves his side.
With his friendly spirit and loving heart, K9 Star brings joy, support, and connection to every space he enters, making him a cherished member of both the USF community and the USFPD family.
