Research Overview: USF Clean Energy Research Center
The Clean Energy Research Center pursues scientific research, technical and infrastructure development, and information transfer in new and environmentally clean energy systems, including solar energy and energy conversion. Major research areas include the following:
- Concentrating solar power
- Photocatalytic detoxification/disinfection technologies
- Indoor air quality
- Smart materials (Thermochromics and Electrochromics)
- Building energy modeling (BEM)
- Design of solar plants on reclaimed land
- Energy storage (phase change materials, thermal storage, batteries, supercapacitors)
- New efficient thermodynamic cycles
- Photovoltaics
- Solar water desalination and distillation
Dr. D. Yogi Goswami is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Clean Energy Research Center at the 色色研究所. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Solar Compass, journal of the International Solar Alliance and Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of the Solar Energy journal. He is also the President-Elect of the Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine of Florida. Within the field of energy he has published 23 books, more than 400 papers, and holds 43 patents.
Professor Goswami has made transformative contributions to the field of Solar Energy, including Thermodynamic Power Cycles, and Solar photocatalytic Detoxification and Disinfection of Air and Water. He developed a new combined Power and Cooling Cycle, now known as the Goswami Cycle, which has resulted in global research in a new class of Combined Cycles with multiple outputs. He pioneered the development of photo-electrochemical oxidation (PECO) technology for disinfection of air, which is now available commercially. He has now developed the next generation Photonic technology to disinfect and detoxify the indoor air. Products based on this invention are helping allergy and asthma sufferers.
Dr. Goswami鈥檚 textbook, Principles of Solar Engineering based on his classroom teaching, is now in its 4th edition and is being used worldwide.
Prof. Goswami has served as the President of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES), and a Governor and Senior Vice President of ASME-International among many professional leadership positions. As a leader in professional societies, he developed a number of energy policy options and impacted energy policies in many countries by direct interaction with their leaders.
