Student-led initiative brings self-care and connection to social work students

This fall, Master of Social Work (MSW) student Sandra “Ace” Accilien partnered with Corner for A Little Mindfulness (CALM) to launch Buckets of Care, a student-led wellness initiative created to offer simple moments of comfort and connection to social work students during a demanding semester.

Working with CALM, Accilien created the themed "Boo Baskets” filled with self-care items, inspirational messages, National Association of Social Workers Florida Chapter (NASW-FL) engagement materials, and seasonal touches. Students engaged with the Buckets of Care displays and the Fall Self-Care Bingo activity, which promoted brief but intentional moments of rest, reflection and joy.

The initiative featured both in-person and virtual editions, ensuring that campus-based and online MSW students could participate. The virtual Buckets of Care experience and online Bingo card extended CALM’s mission of supporting student well-being beyond the physical campus.

The inaugural fall season has wrapped up, and congratulations go to the Fall Boo Basket winners: Anna Loughrey, Casey Mikyska, and Roddkia Vinson.

Building on this collaboration with CALM, Accilien is exploring future seasonal themes, additional self-care prompts and small appreciation gifts, alongside continued partnerships with NASW-FL, campus partners and community organizations. Through each iteration, the heart of Buckets of Care remains the same: offering social work students small but meaningful reminders that they are seen, valued and not alone.
